Madagascar to hold International Mining and Petroleum Forum

The first International Forum On Madagascar Mining and Petroleum will be held in Antananarivo, capital of Madagascar, from Sept. 23 to Sept. 25, a senior government official said on Tuesday.


“This 3-day event is a platform and an opportunity of meeting between businessmen in the extractive sector in Madagascar and foreigners who want to invest in Madagascar,” Riana Ravoniandro, Director of International Relationships under the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons told Xinhua on Tuesday.

“This trade fair, aims for improving the business environment of the extractive sector, whether in large mines, small mines and oil, will be a real lever for Madagascar’s economic development” Ravoniandro said.

Businessmen from 18 countries will attend the forum, while the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons, which is the main organizer of the forum will welcome 5,000 visitors during the three days of the forum.

The latest report of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) shows that extractive industry represents 2.12 percent of the Madagascar’s GDP. Enditem
