John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused President Akufo-Addo of fearing to hand over power due to concerns about scrutiny for alleged state capture.

Mahama’s comments followed the release of the “Agyapadie” document, which details the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ‘s plan to control state assets.

President Akufo-Addo has dismissed the document as a fabrication meant to tarnish his political reputation.

During his campaign tour at the Bawku Naba Palace in the Upper East Region, Mahama suggested that Akufo-Addo’s reluctance to transfer power is driven by a fear of accountability for his administration’s actions.

Mahama cited Akufo-Addo’s past statement about not passing the baton to someone he had removed from office as evidence of this fear.

Mahama asserted that those responsible for misappropriating Ghana’s wealth and abusing their positions would face accountability, regardless of political affiliation.

He emphasised that any NDC officials who engage in misconduct would be held to the same standard.

“They must be held accountable. That’s why Nana Addo says he’ll not hand it over to John Dramani Mahama.

He knows that when I come, I’ll hold him, his family, and his government accountable for what they have done,” Mahama said.

“And so, they want their Vice President to take over from them so that he can come and cover their back. It’s not going to happen; NDC is going to win the election.”

He continued, “Those who have made the people of Ghana suffer by misappropriating the wealth of the people by abusing their office will be held accountable for what they have done.

But I’m always quick to add that when we come into government and appoint people into office under our government, the same measure that we met to the outgoing NPP administration is the same measure we shall deal with our people if they do the same thing the NPP has done.”
