John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of dishonesty during a media encounter held on August 25, just a day after the NDC launched its manifesto.
Mahama claimed that Bawumia’s sudden stammering during the encounter exposed his deceit and suggested that the event’s timing was a deliberate attempt by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to shift focus from the NDC’s new campaign platform.
Speaking on August 27, the first day of his two-day campaign tour in Ada, Mahama criticized Bawumia’s media engagement, saying, “Just yesterday, the Cedi crossed the 16 Cedi to one dollar barrier.
When you do something with a devious intention, it backfires on you.
We announced our manifesto launch for August 24, and immediately our opponents scheduled their media encounter for August 25.
The intent was clearly to divert attention from our manifesto.”
Mahama further stated that Bawumia’s change in speech pattern, from being articulate to stammering, indicated dishonesty.
“When someone who normally speaks fluently suddenly starts stammering, it signals that they are lying,” Mahama added.
