Former President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the need for a seasoned leader to tackle Ghana’s economic difficulties, criticizing what he described as the “experimental” approach of current political candidates.
In a recent community engagement in Juapong, Volta Region, Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December 7 elections, argued that Ghana cannot afford to test unproven leaders during economic strain. He highlighted his track record as evidence of his capability to lead effectively.
“Previously, we were told to ‘try me’, and if the leadership failed, we could vote them out after four years,” Mahama said, referencing past political rhetoric.
“Now, we are hearing similar promises from the current contenders, but the youth of this country need more time for such experiments.
We need an experienced leader who has successfully managed this country before. We must return to proven expertise to address our challenges and secure a brighter future for our youth.”
Mahama also urged the youth to be discerning in their choices, advising them to accept financial incentives from politicians and make an informed decision when voting. He criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for handling economic issues over the past eight years.
“Politicians will offer money before the elections,” Mahama noted. “Take it if you must, but remember the years of hardship, hunger, and poverty when you cast your vote. Vote for a leader who will bring about real change and turn around our nation.”
Mahama’s comments underscore his campaign’s focus on leveraging his experience and addressing the economic concerns central to his platform.
