John Dramani Mahama, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has launched a crucial two-day campaign tour across the Greater Accra Region, a tour that demands your attention and participation.
This tour, a vital part of his #Mahama4Change2024 initiative, carries the potential to shape the future of our nation.
During the first day, Mahama will visit the constituencies of Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Weija Gbawe, Okaikoi Central, and Okaikoi North. On the second day, his campaign will move to Shai Osudoku, Kpone Katamanso, Madina, and Dome Kwabenya.
In his addresses throughout the region, Mahama has been critical of several aspects of the current government.
He accused Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), religious leaders, and activists of treating the Akufo-Addo administration with undue leniency. He noted that some of these groups were more vocal during his presidency.
He recalled that religious leaders who criticized him have seemingly gone silent under the current administration.
Mahama also levelled severe accusations of corruption against the incumbent government, citing specific instances such as the alleged mismanagement of the PDS deal and the controversial Agyapa Royalties agreement. He suggested that the scale of malfeasance under the current administration would have triggered a coup if it had occurred during his tenure.
His comments highlight a significant part of his campaign message addressing corruption and governance issues.
Furthermore, Mahama’s call for disillusioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to participate in the upcoming election and vote for him rather than abstaining out of frustration is a significant plea that carries the weight of our nation’s future.
He argued that the current NPP does not reflect the values of the party he knew during the Kufuor administration, such as fiscal discipline and social intervention programs. He positioned himself as the candidate who can restore the party to its former standards.
Mahama criticized Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and head of the economic management team, regarding financial management.
He gave Bawumia an “F” grade, accusing him of failing to manage the economy effectively and exacerbating the hardships faced by Ghanaians. Mahama cited the depreciating cedi and increasing economic difficulties as evidence of Bawumia’s poor performance.
Mahama’s campaign continues to focus on these issues as he seeks to mobilize support and address the current administration’s challenges.
