Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo’s dismissal of the controversial “Agyapadie” document, asserting that its purported fabricator would need remarkable insight into the president’s intentions.

Despite the government’s assertions that the document is fabricated and designed to mislead, Mahama argued during a recent campaign tour that the document’s predictions have seemingly materialized under the current administration.

“Even if it is fabricated, the implementation is not fabricated because everything written in that document has been implemented,” Mahama contended, suggesting a prescient understanding of governmental actions.

Mahama further accused the Akufo-Addo administration of exacerbating economic hardships and claimed widespread state capture over its eight-year tenure.

“We need to hold this government accountable for the hardship and crisis they have subjected Ghana to, for buying up state properties and amassing wealth,” Mahama emphasized.

The ‘Agyapadie’ document, which allegedly outlines strategies favouring the Akyem ethnic group in Ghana’s economy, has sparked widespread controversy and division, making it a significant issue in the current political landscape.

Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin dismissed the document as a fabrication aimed at tarnishing his household and Okyeman, citing historical precedents of similar attempts to incite ethnic tensions, providing a crucial historical context to the current controversy.

President Akufo-Addo, speaking at the Ghana Report Summit on countering misinformation, reiterated that the document was baseless and aimed at undermining trust ahead of the 2024 elections.

He announced a National Action Plan to combat misinformation, pledging transparency and security in the upcoming electoral process, thereby reassuring the public about the government’s commitment to a fair and secure election.

As Ghana prepares for the election, the discourse surrounding the ‘Agyapadie’ document underscores broader concerns about misinformation and its potential impact on democratic integrity, raising significant concerns about the fairness and transparency of the upcoming electoral process.
