Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended his “Ghana needs a reset” slogan, asserting that it encompasses economic recovery and a broader overhaul of governance and societal attitudes.

His comments come in response to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who criticized the reset approach and advocated instead for an “upgrade” of Ghana.

During a media engagement on August 25, Bawumia outlined his vision for Ghana’s future, emphasizing his commitment to expanding the economy, creating jobs, and enhancing public services.

“Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset,” Bawumia stated, highlighting his 14 key commitments, which include tax reforms, improved healthcare, and infrastructure development.

In a counterpoint made during a meeting with NDC supporters in Accra on August 26, Mahama argued that a reset is necessary for addressing the country’s systemic issues.

“How can you upgrade something that is broken? We need to reset the engine before we can think of upgrading it,” Mahama said.

He emphasized that his vision extends beyond economic reforms, addressing the need to reset governance and societal attitudes to achieve comprehensive national renewal.
