Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to support him and his party in the upcoming general elections.
Mahama emphasized that the choice facing voters this year is not just a political decision but a pivotal moment for the future of Ghana.
Addressing trainee nurses on Saturday, Mahama promised to prioritize job creation in the healthcare sector if elected.
He assured that his administration would focus on ensuring stable and rewarding careers for nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Mahama highlighted his administration’s previous efforts to support trainee nurses, including the proposal to replace allowances with a student loan system that would not only increase employment opportunities but also provide financial stability and career advancement.
He sharply contrasted his administration’s efforts with the current government’s handling of trainee nurse allowances, alleging that promises made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had not been fulfilled, leaving many nurses unpaid for up to 30 months.
“We understand the challenges trainee nurses face,” Mahama said.” “During our tenure, we aimed to improve your employment prospects rather than just providing allowances.
Unfortunately, the current government’s promises to cover allowances have not been met, with many trainees still awaiting payment. This stark contrast between our approach and the NPP’s is a clear indication of our commitment to the healthcare sector and job creation.
Mahama also committed to completing specific healthcare infrastructure projects initiated during his previous term, including the Agenda 111 hospitals and the expansion of regional hospitals.
He reiterated his unwavering commitment to the healthcare sector, assuring that these projects would be continued and completed to create additional opportunities for healthcare workers.
“This election is a critical choice between securing Ghana’s future and the NPP’s promises”, Mahama concluded, urging voters to choose the NDC to ensure comprehensive development and job creation in the healthcare sector.
