Mahama Opens FAGRO Tomorrow

?President John Dramani Mahama is expected to will open the fourth National Food and Agriculture Show (FAGRO) tomorrow,?Thursday?August 23, 2012 at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.

Among other things, the president will highlight on this year?s theme ??Linking farmers to the appropriate market: a value chain process,? and specific agricultural policies that falls short and needs to be adjusted to generate positive impact for smallholders.

A statement coming from the FAGRO Secretariat stated that, this year?s theme is to establish and maintain a value chain process that has the farmer at heart. It also seeks to provide alternative measures in ensuring that all actors in the agric sector especially small-holder farmers benefit fully from their hard work.

“Other high profile guest from government, civil society, the diplomatic corps and various actors in the agricultural sector will draw attention to farmers? constraints such as an effective lack of access to production inputs and efficient produce markets, new technologies such as improved seed varieties and agro-chemicals.”

FAGRO is by far the most important food and agricultural marketing platform in Ghana and derives its success from highly specialized innovations; such as seminars, drama, exhibitions, food competitions and food fairs.

It was stated that among many activities at the fairgrounds this year include; daily exhibitions, free daily seminars, business-to-business meetings with Brazilian companies and a GIZ-Sponsored drama.

“The rest are; a book launch on national agric policies, key: to strengthening capacity of small scale farmers, official launch: Ghana?s Farmers? Market and an international food fair that will blend history and fiesta to create a unique mix of African, Asian and European cuisines. Come and meet with various agric businesses, establish new contacts and shop for food stuffs at low cost, direct from farmers,? says FAGRO Exhibition Director, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa.

She added that as an annual show, FAGRO has set itself apart as the only agric fair in the country that provides the platform for farmers and participants to network, form strategic partnerships and learn modern techniques of agricultural marketing, the appropriate and modern use of farming technology and also farm business management such as laws and policies, accessing land, water, effective production services, resource management and conversation practices.
