John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to build a unified and prosperous Ghana during his campaign visit to the Upper East Region.
Expressing his gratitude to the Paramount Chief of Bawku Traditional Area, Zug-Raan Asigri Abugrago Azorka, and other local leaders, Mahama highlighted his commitment to addressing poverty, enhancing agriculture, and improving healthcare and infrastructure.
In a Facebook post following his visit, Mahama emphasized the need for national unity in achieving developmental goals.
“Together, as a united country, we will build the Ghana we want, lifting our people out of poverty, strengthening agriculture by introducing farmer services centres, and improving healthcare and social infrastructure,” he wrote.
During his campaign speech in Binduri on August 4, Mahama criticized the current administration for handling misinformation.
He accused the Jubilee House, formerly known as Flagstaff House, of being the “headquarters of misinformation,” alleging that it spreads fake stories and misrepresents facts.
Mahama’s comments followed a recent incident where his remarks about potentially creating a new region were reportedly misrepresented.
He had discussed the constitutional requirements for establishing a new region, including economic viability, land size, population, and the need for a formal petition and a commission of inquiry.
Mahama claimed that a fabricated news story had distorted his comments, incorrectly suggesting he had criticized the Mamprugu state.
“The president came with misinformation and used the Agyapadie document as an example, but perhaps he is unaware that his own office is where such misinformation is generated,” Mahama stated.
“Before addressing misinformation elsewhere, he should first address the issues within his own office.”
Mahama’s remarks underscore his campaign focus on transparency and accountability while advocating for a united approach to national development.
