John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Ghanaians to come together and support one another during the current economic crisis.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honor at the 31st Biennial General Council meeting of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, held at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo, Upper East Region, Mahama highlighted the severe economic challenges facing the country.

Mahama, also a member of the Assemblies of God Church, addressed the escalating economic difficulties that have intensified hardship for many Ghanaians.

He pointed to recent data from the Ghana Statistical Service, which showed a troubling increase in multidimensional poverty.

According to the statistics, approximately 8 million Ghanaians experienced food deprivation in 2023 due to financial constraints.

“We’ve seen an increase in multidimensional poverty according to recent statistics.

It says 8 million people went without food daily in 2023 because they couldn’t afford it.

This reflects a dire situation where many struggle to meet basic needs,” Mahama stated.

He emphasized the importance of compassion and solidarity during these trying times, urging individuals, particularly those in better economic positions, to support the less fortunate.

“In times of hardship, it is crucial for us to be our brother’s keeper. We must come together and show kindness to one another,” he said.

Mahama’s call for solidarity comes amid rising inflation, unemployment, and Ghana’s high cost of living.

The former president’s appeal resonates with the growing sentiment among Ghanaians that collective action and mutual support are essential to navigating the current economic challenges.
