Following the victory of Nana Addo-Danquah Akufo-Addo as the 2016 flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the just ended-party delegates’ congress, a group calling itself, the United Zongo For Bawumia is rooting for the retention of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flag bearer’s running mate.

The group which has absolute confidence in Dr Bawumia indicated that their decision to support Dr Bawumia for the position was rooted in the desire to have a true Muslim brother who possess the qualities of becoming a President of Ghana in the near future.

Addressing the media in Accra, Sheik Mubarak Al-Mubarak, spokesperson for the group noted that, as compared to other political parties in the country, the NPP has a significant recognition for the Zongos hence the nomination and acceptance of Dr Bawumia to aide Nana Akufo Addo in the 2012 general elections.
According to him, the NPP as a political party also identified itself with the importance of the Zongo communities in the development of the country.

Enumerating some of the many reasons why they have taken this entrenched position to see to it that Dr Bawumia is retained as the party’s running mate for the coming elections, the group believes that he has more to give to the party and the people of Ghana if he is allowed to assist Nana Akufo Addo to win the coming elections.

They also averred that the NDC government has fallen on the direction given by Dr Bawumia on the Cedi decline, a manifestation that Dr Bawumia, if given the opportunity can turn the dwindling fortunes of the country’s economy for the better.
