The Majority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has formally requested the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, to urgently reconvene the House to address key government issues.
This follows the indefinite adjournment of Parliament on 7 November, due to a lack of a prepared agenda from the Business Committee.
In a letter dated 22 November, Afenyo-Markin proposed 28 and 29 November 2024 as potential dates for the emergency session, which would focus on several pressing matters.
Among the key agenda items are tax exemptions for beneficiaries of the One District, One Factory Programme, the approval of a $250 million Ghana Financial Stability Fund, and the ratification of mining lease agreements for bauxite and lithium projects.
Additionally, Parliament is expected to consider nominations to the Supreme Court.
The Effutu MP urged Speaker Bagbin to exercise his constitutional authority to recall Parliament, stressing the need for bipartisan cooperation and national unity as Ghana enters the critical stages of its 2024 election season.
