The Odumase District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, Pastor Daniel Onyame-Tease, has called for a law that will forbid government officials from accepting gifts which could lead to bribery and corruption.
According to him, bribery and corruption retards development, and that there was the need for stringent measures to be put in place to make bribery and corruption unattractive to those in authority.
Pastor Onyame-Tease was speaking to The Chronicle in an interview in Sunyani.
According to the Pastor, if politicians, over the years, had been faithful and honest in carrying out their duties without corruption, Ghana’s name would have been boldly written among the giant countries in the world.
He observed that the major problem facing Ghana, and for that matter Africa, was corruption, and therefore, urged those in authority to be faithful and loyal to Mother Ghana, to help accelerate economic advancement.
Touching on businesses, Pastor Onyame-Tease noted that many Ghanaian businesses and companies did not see the light of the day, because of lack of proper records keepings and planning.
He said, for businesses to grow, proper record-keeping and planning were essential, and entreated the Ghanaian business community to cultivate the habit of proper record-keeping and planning to help their businesses grow.
Turning to the youth, the District Pastor advised the young graduates not to depend on the government for employment which is not available.
Pastor Onyame-Tease said there were many things they could do to generate income to take care of their needs, saying, “There are many opportunities for you out there to enable you start your own businesses.” He also advised out-of-school youth to learn a trade, to enable them acquire employable skills.
