Malawi’s top export, tobacco, has made 39.4 million US dollars in sales within five weeks since the tobacco sales market was opened this year.
According to statistics from the Auction Holdings Limited (AHL), the sales indicate a 4.5 percent increase against 37.7 million US dollars made during the same period in 2019.
During the opening of this year’s market season, the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Francis Kasaila expressed optimism that the market will be good despite COVID-19 pandemic which has highly affected a large part of the global economy.
Tobacco is Malawi’s top export and is regarded as Malawi’s green gold. Last year, the country made 237 million US dollars from tobacco sales. Enditem
