Malta’s Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici on Wednesday announced a new 100,000-euro (113,560 U.S. dollars) fund for local artists.
million dollarsTitled Creative Communities, the program aims to leverage the archipelago’s cultural diversity and collective memory of local communities to create lasting partnerships with professional artists and voluntary organizations.
Toni Attard, director of strategy of Arts Council Malta, said the council would be organizing information sessions and one-to-one brokerage sessions to enable interested parties to take full advantage of the opportunity.
Bonnici said the new fund would be administered by the council instead of the ministry in the interest of increasing transparency.
The first round of applications is open until April 2 for projects between June 2015 and June 2016. Enditem
