To all those professionals especially presenters, editors in media circles wanting to become active politicians, I have this to say to you. Prepare very well after you have weighed all the options open to you before venturing out to offer yourselves as candidates for parliamentary seats on the tickets of any of the registered political parties. So far I have heard a few notable professionals as Kenneth Koranchie of the searchlight newspaper, Abeiku Santana of OK FM, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah of joy fm fame among others making their intentions clear.
Yes they want to become MPs. They all claim and rightly so that they have ?what it takes? to represent their constituents in parliament. After consulting their family members and notable figures in their constituencies I believe that they have been given favorable backing to go ahead. There is nothing wrong with the move being made by these persons who have the right to decide what to do under the 1992 constitution. However they need to know that politics is ?a different ball game? all together. It is not a matter of just knowing how to speak well on radio and television and editing newspapers. There are a lot things involved in politics that can only be discovered only when one gets seriously involved in it. They need to take into consideration what happened to Mammie Dokonoo of OBRA fame who after a successful career in the media first tried her hands on party politics by first joining the National Democratic Congress and later jumping ship to join New Patriotic Party. She now regrets ever venturing into politics saying that politics has destroyed her career.
As published in the media, Veteran actress and television presenter Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has disclosed that since she joined politics in 2008, she has not been able to secure roles in movies. This, she noted, has destroyed her acting career.
Maame Dokono, who became a household name some years past, said she made good use of her season by acting and hosting so many programs which impacted the lives of many people before participating actively in politics.
She was of the opinion that public figures should not be vilified for engaging in politics or supporting political parties openly.
All those professionals venturing into politit
The veteran actress made these comments in an interview on UTV’s ‘Entertainment News’.
She advised movie producers to go beyond personalities and pick people who cut out perfectly for roles they desire in their movies.
?In Nigeria, old men and women are given roles as old people but in Ghana we have young people playing such roles. We are all around and we don’t charge too much so they can come for our assistance,? Maame Dokono advised.
Mammie Dokonoo is still healthy and strong. She is good enough to be used in film roles or given roles on television and radio stations given her past impeccable roles. My candid opinion is that film producers and radio and television stations must pay heed to the advise on Mammie Dokonoo to invite her and veteran actors to take part in roles in films and television programs. For goodness sake all those concerned must take away the stumbling block in her way to take part in her known field of acting by ignoring her involvement in party politics by mounting platforms to campaign for herself and presidential candidates of both NPP and NDC
