Little did a 19 year-old-unemployed know that stealing half bag of cocoa beans, valued 101 Ghana Cedis, would land him in a three year jail term in hard labour.
Thomas Frimpong, admitted having unlawfully entering a cocoa shed and stealing cocoa beans, he was accordingly sentenced to start the jail term this Easter holidays.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Inspector James Essel told the court, presided over by Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong that the complainant, Madam Faustina Asare is a Purchasing Clerk P/C of the Ghana Cocoa Marketing (GCM) and buys cocoa at Apinaman, while Frimpong lives at Adenkyesu.
On March 28, this year Madam Asare went to the company?s District Office to submit her returns and when she went back, he detected that half bag of cocoa beans had been stolen from the shed.
Inspector Essel said at about 10:15 hours Frimpong sent half bag of cocoa to the shed to sell and after weighing it, the P/C identified the beans to be those stolen from the shed and therefore, reported the matter to the police. GNA
