An unidentified man, believed to be in his early 30s, was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal a transformer owned by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Suhyen, located within the New Juaben North Municipality.
Residents discovered the lifeless body of the man on Tuesday morning near the ECG transformer, showing no signs of physical assault.
The incident underscores a recurring issue of vandalism against ECG installations in the Eastern Region, significantly impacting the company’s operations.
Following notification of the incident, personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and officers from the Koforidua Effiduase Police Divisional Command swiftly responded to the scene to initiate investigations.
Daniel Kankam Twumasi, Deputy Director of NADMO for New Juaben North Municipal, confirmed the incident to Citi News, stating that the deceased’s body has been transported to Effiduase St. Joseph Hospital.
Authorities are currently probing the circumstances leading to the man’s death, with a focus on understanding the sequence of events surrounding the attempted theft and subsequent electrocution.
