BUSTED! Yaw Avorka
A jealous farmer from a small village, Kyekyewere near Osiem in the East Akim municipality of the Eastern Region, on Friday night butchered his wife in front of their 10-year-old daughter who got completely traumatized by the action.
The 50-year-old farmer, Yaw Avorka, also a palm wine tapper, had been accusing his wife, Akuney Adjoda, 45, popularly called Akuvi, of being unfaithful and engaging in extra-marital affairs.
The farmer-cum-palm wine tapper then conceived the idea of killing his wife with whom he had eight children.
Unknown to the wife, Yaw Avorka, on Friday night, had already made his sharp machete and a cudgel ready to carry out his plan.
Avorka came home around 8.30pm and saw his wife busily preparing banku for their dinner while their 10-year-old daughter sat by the mother.
Without asking his wife anything, he sneaked into the room, collected the club and hit the wife on the head.
The unexpected clubbing sent the wife, who looked bigger and taller than the man, to the ground after which he continued to hit her until she became very weak.
He then went back to the room and fetched his machete and started hacking his wife in the arm, head and the back as she tried in vain to call for help.
The man did all this in the presence of his daughter who became very terrified by her father’s action.
After Yaw Avorka had committed the crime, he asked his daughter to accompany him to the Osiem Police Station for them to lodge a complaint.
He therefore went to the police station together with his daughter to report that he had killed his wife because he suspected her of having extra-marital affairs.
The Osiem police did not believe the story of the farmer until they went to the village to be greeted with the gory spectacle of the mutilated body of the wife lying in a pool of blood.
He was consequently arrested and the body of the wife sent to the New Tafo Government Hospital for autopsy.
The little girl, who was the only witness to the murder, was initially too traumatized to tell the police how her father killed the mother.
She later managed to tell the police how her father hit her mother several times with a club and butchered her.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the man was currently in the custody of the police and would be put before the New Tafo magistrate court today on a provisional charge of murder.
The incident has thrown the Osiem Township into shock.
