Manchester United is on the verge of enhancing its midfield by acquiring Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Premier League club has agreed to a €50 million (£42.29 million) transfer fee for the Uruguayan midfielder, with an additional €10 million (£8.46 million) available in potential add-ons.
Ugarte, signed by PSG from Sporting Lisbon for €60 million last year, has been a critical target for Manchester United throughout the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old played a significant role in Paris, making 37 appearances and contributing to PSG’s Ligue 1 title victory.
The completion of Ugarte’s move depends on the outcome of Scott McTominay’s proposed transfer to Napoli.
McTominay is scheduled for a medical examination in Italy on Tuesday. A €30 million (£25.37 million) deal is expected to be finalized soon.
Despite McTominay’s valuable contributions to United’s squad, the club’s decision to proceed with his sale is influenced by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations, which provide incentives for the sale of homegrown players.
Under manager Erik ten Hag, McTominay has faced stiff competition for a starting spot, prompting the move.
