Mauritania reports daily record of 156 new COVID-19 cases


Mauritanian health authorities reported on Thursday a daily record of 156 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the country’s total to 1,439.

Of 1,116 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 156 returned positive, all follow-up contact cases, Sidi Ould Zahaf, the country’s director general of public health, said during the daily briefing.

According to the health ministry, 149 of these new cases were detected in Nouakchott, the country’s epicenter.

The ministry also registered 3 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 74, while the number of recoveries increased by 108 to reach 250. This is also a daily record of recoveries since Mauritania reported its first confirmed case on March 13.

Mauritania received Wednesday night a donation of medical equipment from the Chinese government, the Chinese embassy told Xinhua.

The donation includes up to 4 tons of different medical supplies and equipment to help Mauritania fight COVID-19. Enditem
