Mauritania’s COVID-19 cases rise to 292

Mauritanian health authorities reported on Wednesday 24 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bring the total number to 292 in the West African country.

According to a release from the Ministry of Health, among 260 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 24 came back positive, all follow-up contact cases and all from Nouakchott.

The ministry also announced that the death toll rose by 3, reaching 16, and the number of recoveries stayed at 15.

Across the country, a total of 1,538 people are still under quarantine.

Mauritanian government received on Tuesday the third donation from China’s Jack Ma and Alibaba foundations. According to the Chinese Embassy, this donation includes thermal cameras, masks, protective suits and goggles, among others.

Facing the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, Mauritanian government announced last week new restrictions and measures of prevention and response to COVID-19, including a curfew, the mandatory wearing of masks and the postponement of opening schools. Enditem
