CHADEMA National Chairman Freeman Mbowe
Mr Mbowe, who is also Hai MP, is accused of attacking and wounding Mr Nasri Uronu, causing him bodily harm at a polling station in Lambo during the general elections on October 31, 2010.
Adjourning the judgement until May 18, Resident Magistrate, Ms Agnesneema Mhina, attributed the adjournment to the absence of the Resident Magistrate in Charge, Mr Denis Mpelembwa, who is hearing the matter.
Magistrate Mpelembwa was out of the court on official duties. During his evidence, Mr Mbowe requested that the District Court dismiss the charge of attacking an independent electoral supervisor Nasri Uronu (21) as the charge is cooked to undermine his political career.
Mr Mbowe told the court that criminal case number 73 of 2011 was opened with the aim of undermining his career in the party and destroy his performance and position to serve the citizens of Hai constituency as MP.
He said the charge is cooked taking into account the evidence presented in the court. Therefore, the claims were untrue and baseless.
