Afia Pokua, a prominent media figure known as Vim Lady, has supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) call to audit Ghana’s voter register but has criticized the party’s planned nationwide demonstration as unnecessary.
During her political show “Egyaso Gyaso,” which was monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Vim Lady argued that while the demand for an audit is valid, the demonstration and public criticism of the Electoral Commission (EC) are counterproductive. She suggested that the NDC should engage directly with the EC to address their concerns.
“I support the NDC’s call for an audit of the voter register, but the demonstration and ongoing attacks on the EC are needless.
The party should have opted to resolve the issue through direct dialogue with the EC at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings,” Vim Lady stated. She expressed concern that the EC is being diverted from its essential duties to respond to the protests.
Vim Lady also emphasized the need for clarity on the NDC’s allegations, specifically regarding approximately 15,000 voters listed on the EC’s transfer list. She urged the NDC to provide detailed information on these claims to facilitate a transparent resolution.
The NDC is set to hold a nationwide protest today, September 17, 2024, demanding a forensic audit of the voter register. The party alleges discrepancies in the register and pushes for an independent review to ensure electoral integrity.
