Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS have been declared winners of the 2020 SHS Sanitation club of the year after an exciting and challenging season.

The National Sanitation Club President of the Year went to Edna Naa Tetteh, President of Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS Sanitation Club. The Form 3 student was nominated and won for her exceptional cleanness.

The award for the National Organiser of the Sanitation Club of the Year was taken by Samuela Antwi, Form 3 student and President of St. Louis SHS Sanitation Club.

The Schools’ Sanitation Club Members can currently be found in Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, Aggrey Memorial A.M.E Zion SHS, Mamfe Methodist Girls’ SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS, St. Louis SHS, Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS, Krobo Girls’ SHS, Ola Girls’ SHS, Aburi Presbyterian Sec/tech School, Diaspora Girls’ and Afia Kobi SHS.

Fifteen (15) students have been selected to compete in the National Sanitation Contest- 2020-2021 to crown the winner for the National Ambassador for Sanitation.

The National Sanitation Contest- Activities comprise; Exhibition of practical work.

5 artifacts made with recycled material to be exhibited by each contestant.

There is also a Presentation of Project Work. Two participants would be paired to present their research work on sanitation challenges and solutions in the Market Centres, Beaches, Community, etc. The third and final part is a quiz competition.

According to Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams, CEO of One-On-One Foundation, organisers of the National Schools Sanitation Tour, this year has been very hectic, as the coronavirus came in to halt the programme, and many events had to change.

He said the sports part of aerobics which the students love was taken out, but he believes they must be conscious of body fitness and exercise daily to keep fit.

Mr. Williams, who doubles as the youth coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) said they need more support and appealed to companies to aid them in organising the National Sanitation Contest.

He thanked Unilever Ghana for their amazing contribution to the season 6 of the SHS Sanitation programme with their Vim Multi Purpose Cleaner, sweet scented Rexona and Key Brillant. He also thanked the Ghana Education Service, the Heads of Schools and the Media for their assistance in carrying out the Sanitation Program.
