Military commander killed in Cameroon’s restive Northwest English-speaking region


A commander of a Cameroonian army’s brigade was killed Friday in an attack by separatist fighters in the country’s war-torn English-speaking region of Northwest, according to security and local sources.

Richard Bakodock, the commander of Mbiame Gendarmerie Brigade, was ambushed and killed by separatist fighters at a checkpoint in Mbiame, a locality in the region, several sources confirmed.

Separatist commander simply identified as “general no pity” claimed responsibility for the attack and displayed the body of the slain commander on social media.

Cameroon’s two English-speaking regions of Northwest and Southwest have been experiencing an armed separatist conflict since 2017.

Separatists want to create an independent nation in the regions. Enditem
