Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has publicly acknowledged the government’s difficulties in funding the completion of several Youth Resource Centre projects across Ghana.

Only the Koforidua Resource Centre was fully commissioned starting in 2018, with others nearing completion or facing delays.

Speaking at a press briefing, Ussif addressed the payment challenges that contractors involved in these projects face. He explained that differences between Phase 1 and Phase 2 contracts with various contractors had contributed to the payment delays. However, he assured us that these issues had been resolved and that efforts were underway to facilitate the resumption of construction.

“We’ve encountered challenges regarding payments to contractors, which has hindered progress as they haven’t yet handed over completed facilities,” Ussif stated. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to promptly settling outstanding payments to enable contractors to resume work at Azumah Nelson, Navrongo, and Nhyinahini centres.

Furthermore, Ussif assured that all contractors involved would receive their dues and reiterated plans to restart construction at additional sites, including Navrongo, Yendi, and Phase 2 of the Accra project.

The minister’s remarks underscore the government’s efforts to address financial obstacles and advance the completion of these vital infrastructure projects, which aim to support youth development across Ghana.
