The Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, has extended the tenure of the current Board of Trustees of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) until January 6, 2025.
Originally set to expire on August 9, 2024, the Board’s tenure has been extended to align with the term of the current administration. This announcement was made by the Minister during a meeting with the SSNIT Board of Trustees on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.
Salam Aminu Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, confirmed the news to 3news.com on Monday, December 2. He noted that the extension of the Board’s tenure was granted in accordance with Section 35 (1) and (2) of the National Pensions Act, 2008 (ACT 766).
Minister Baffour-Awuah explained that rather than reconstituting a new Board, it was deemed more practical for the current Board to continue its duties until the new deadline of January 6, 2025.
