Upcoming Actor and Movie Director, Antony Woode has lambasted Ghana?s Tourism and Creative Arts Ministry for not doing enough for theatre and theatre practitioners in the country.

In an excusive interview with, he explained that if packaged well, theater can be a major way of promoting tourism in the country-the reason it must be made attractive. He said it is unfortunate that nothing is being done to boost the industry. ?Government is not investing in the industry and its really not helping us at all,? he lamented.

He lamented the fact that, though much was expected of her when she was first appointed, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Madam Dzifa Gomashie- an astute theatre practitioner has not performed to satisfaction in terms of promoting theatre in Ghana.

?She is not up to anything, even if she is up to something we are not feeling the impact of whatever she is doing,? he stated passionately.

Though theatre doesn?t fetch a lot of money for practitioners in Ghana, post of them claim they are still in it just for the love and passion for it. Anthony Woode thinks the likes of Uncle Ebo Whyte of Roverman productions, Mr. Jeorge Wilson Kingson of the Universal Theatre Club, Nkrabeah Effah Dartey of Theatre Mirrors and Eyram Evans Adorkor of Kritik Productions need to be applauded and celebrated for solidly rallying behind theatre despite all the challenges facing theatre in Ghana.


Antony Woode, is a student of the University of Professional Studies, studying Public Relations. He joined his first theater group (The Universal Theatre Club) some four years ago and since then has been practicing live theater, until recently when he found his way onto the screens.

T-wood as he is popularly called has performed in a lot plays, among them are ?Love Net?, ?For the Love of a Woman?, ?The Fox?, ?Ali Dondo?, and ?The Landlord?.

He made his maiden appearance on screen in the movie Announcement. He has also featured in movies like ?The World Cup is Missing?, where he acted with the likes of, Kofi Adjorlolo, Too Sweet Annan, Emmanuel Armah among others.

He is currently featuring in the award winning TV series ?Living with Trisha?.

T-Woode calls for the sensitization of theatre and the need for investors to see it as a business worth- investing in.

He has also suggested an Award scheme for the industry players as a way of motivation package. ?if there are award shows for players in the Movie, Music, Radio and TV industry, why not have an award show for Theatre practitioners?
