Shocking: This is the moment fisherman Daniel Carlin, 62, was attacked by a sea lion while he was posing for a photo with a fish on a boat ? and then dragged a staggering 20 feet through the water by the creature.
Daniel Carlin was holding a fish as he was posing for a picture when the marine mammal attacked him Sunday at 2:38 p.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson.
?A 300-pound sea lion grabbed the fish and pulled the man over the side into the water and dragged him 20 feet through the water,? lifeguards told San Diego 6 News.
Carlin was on the boat with his wife coming back to San Diego after an Easter Sunday fishing trip.
Lt. John Sandmeyer responded to the scene and said this type of attack is unheard of.
?Obviously [he?s] a little bit in shock and this was a tough incident, very unusual, where we don?t have this kind of thing happen,? Sandmeyer said.
Carlin sustained puncture wounds and lacerations to his leg, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
