Month-long Zambia arts group exhibition opens in Namibia

A group exhibition of works by Zambian artists has opened at Namibia’s National Arts Gallery in the capital, Windhoek.

“The Zambians Are Coming” group exhibition, which runs from Nov. 18 through Dec. 18, showcases artworks that represent the culture of an era that brings in narratives about reality and history, tradition, and contemporary practices, including art and politics, organizers said.

Snobia Kaputu, CEO of the National Art Gallery of Namibia, said: “We consider this a historical moment between the art fraternity of the two countries.”

The exhibition is laying a foundation for upcoming collaborations and networking between Namibian and Zambian artists in all areas of arts, she told an launch event Thursday.

Cliff Chinyama, deputy director of the Zambian National Arts Council, told the opening that as commerce increases, there will be growth and global interest in Zambian and Namibian arts.
