At least 3, 728 workers had lost their jobs in the last two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Teresa Rodrigues Dias, Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security said Friday.
The official, while speaking at a consultation meeting with a group of employers, highlighted that the situation of COVID-19 has reflected negatively on the vitality of companies and in the implementation of a number of policies, with reference to promotion employment.
According to the minister the situation has motivated the approval by the government of immediate measures to alleviate the economic and financial effects caused by the pandemic.
Most companies providing services in the oil industry, civil construction, industry and commerce, alluded loss of financial resources to support expenses with human resources.
Employers have also advocated the need of an unemployment fund created by the State in order to alleviate the situation that they are currently experiencing and which may worsen in the near future.
The meeting aimed to seek solutions from employers, on cases of dismissal, non-remuneration and suspension of workers due to the novel coronavirus. Enditem
