Morocco has recorded 12.3 million tourist arrivals between January and October, up by 39 percent year-on-year, the Ministry of Tourism said on Monday.
The growth testifies to “the remarkable resilience of Morocco’s tourism sector despite the crises,” the ministry said in a press release, adding that the North African country is “on track for a record year with 14 million tourists.”
Morocco’s tourism revenues reached 8.1 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months of the year, according to the latest report of Office des Changes, the country’s foreign exchange regulator.
Nearly 13 million tourists visited Morocco in 2019, the year before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, bringing in a total of 9.6 billion dollars in tourism revenues.
On March 17, the country adopted a 580-million-dollar plan to boost the tourism sector in an effort to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026.
