Mother, daughter die in bomb blast in northern Namibia


An old South African 60mm mortar bomb has killed a mother and her daughter in the northern part of Namibia.
bomb blastPolice said the mother, identified as 51-year-old Emilia Shikalepo, and her 8-year-old daughter Betina Josef, died on the spot when the bomb exploded on them while they were working in their field Thursday.
According to the police, the mother picked up the bomb, which she thought was old and then threw it onto the ground where it exploded.
It killed her and the girl while injuring another daughter and a second person who were also working in the field. The injured, the police said, are in a serious condition in hospital.
A councillor in the area said there were still a lot of live bombs especially in the fields left during the liberation struggle. Enditem.
