Health authorities in Mozambique on Wednesday expressed concerns over the cases of stigmatization and discrimination against people who were infected with the coronavirus, saying that the country needs support from community level to contain the spread of the pandemic.
“Discrimination is taking place all over the country. If the trend continues, lack of the community support will jeopardise the efforts of the Mozambican health authorities in the fight against COVID-19,” said Sergio Chichume, Director of Health Survey and Observation of Health Ministry in an interview with Radio Mozambique.
On Wednesday’s routine press conference, Director of Public Health Rosa Marlene also called for unity in the fight against the pandemic, saying that stigmatization can lead to non-compliance with the quarantine, making the prevention more difficult. Enditem
