President Filipe Nyusi paid a surprise visit to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) deployed to fight the armed insurgents in the northern province Cabo Delgado.

According to a news release distributed on Tuesday by the President’s Office, the visit was paid during last weekend and aimed to inquire about the progress of the FDS’s actions against the armed men.

“Only those on the ground day and night confronting the rebels and all the challenges have the notion of what is really going on,” he said, adding that the patriotic actions of the military has been appreciated by all Mozambicans.

Nyusi said he is aware of all the progress in details and was told by local communities that they feel encouraged by the military presence to assure the safety of their normal life.

The president said that the enemies of the sovereignty will always be around, and there are enemies who want to destabilize the country in order to steal natural resources.

“We will always defend our country till the last Mozambican, till the last soldier. That’s our mission. This is the land we shall live by and the land we shall raise our children through our wealth,” he said. Enditem
