The Mozambican parliament on Wednesday approved three significant agreements, facilitating it to transfer convicted individuals with Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.
The move is to address the growing complexity of organized and transnational crimes, said Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs Helena Kida while presenting the documents to the parliament.
“Judicial and legal cooperation is crucial to ensuring the fundamental rights of citizens. The state must promote justice through mechanisms that encompass assets and individuals beyond its territory, strengthening the transfer of convicted individuals to serve their sentences in their home countries,” said the minister.
The agreements allow individuals convicted in one of the signatory countries to be transferred to their home countries to serve their sentences.
According to Kida, the implementation of these agreements will not incur additional costs for Mozambique.
The Mozambican government stated that the agreements not only reinforce the bonds of cooperation between the involved countries but also represent a renewed commitment to justice and human rights.
