The MTN Ghana Foundation has commenced the construction of a 24-unit classroom block for the Ghana Police Service Cluster of Schools at Tesano, Accra.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Ms Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, the Acting Corporate Services Executive, MTN Ghana, explained that the MTN Foundation decided to construct the classroom block after the Ghana Police Service appealed to it for assistance about a year ago.

It said the request was subsequently submitted to the Board of Directors who reviewed the project and gave approval for work to begin.

The statement said the project was expected to be completed in six months at a cost of GH¢1.6 million, and would contain the head teacher’s office, staff common room, wash rooms and furniture.

“In addition, MTN Foundation will convert and enhance an existing Library into an integrated library with physical books and a modern Information and Communication Technology Centre. This is to help enhance teaching and learning in today’s digital world,” it said.

It quoted the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Selorm Adadevoh, who announced the commencement of the project, as saying: “For MTN, we just want to brighten the lives of young Ghanaians who have a great future ahead.”

“Education is a golden ticket to a better life. Access to quality education fundamentally impacts economic growth and our future as a people.”

The Inspector General of Police, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, expressed joy at the favourable response of the MTN Ghana Foundation.

The construction of the school is the 143rd major project of the Foundation since its establishment in 2007.

It had instituted 82 educational, 52 health, and 10 economic empowerment projects at a total cost of GH¢32 million.

Hundreds of small projects had been implemented through its annual staff volunteering programme.
