In 2016 alone, the company is making a total investment of $96 million, made up of $62 million in network expansion, $ 16 million in IT services and $18 million in Long Term Evolution, to enhance its operations.
Mr Ebenezer Twum Asante, the Chief Executive Officer, MTN Ghana, speaking at the launch of the 20th Anniversary of the Company, said the celebrations would aim at reflecting on the company’s evolution and prospect for the future.
The four-month long celebration is on the theme: “MTN at 20: Two decades of brightening lives; embracing a future of unlimited opportunities.”
He said the anniversary would also enable management get closer to its customers, to listen more and engage them better to enable the company to develop even more relevant and meaningful services.
He said the company has grown in every aspect of their business, including market operations, customer base, network and products and services.
Mr Asante said through MTN, many businesses have been born and their very existence created opportunities for businesses in the value added service, entertainment, media, advertising, brands, research, hospitality, music, culture and arts.
Over the last two decades, the company has evolved with different brand names like Spacefon, Spacefon Areeba, Areeba and MTN.
“The strategic and consistent investments we make have also contributed to our growth,” the CEO said.
He said with a robust 2G and 3G network, three state-of-the art data centres, the West African Cables System and over 5000 KM of fiber, MTN continues to deliver extensive, reliable, fast voice and data services to Ghanaians.
He said the roll-out and full commercialization of the company’s 4G service would be the game changer, adding that “we will also continue to focus on new digital businesses and mobile money.”
Mr Ato Sarpong, Deputy Minister of Communications, commended management of MTN for their integrity in the telecommunications industry.
He said strong leadership, commitment to society and the calibre of staff had propelled the company to the current position.
He said government would continue to provide the needed and enabling environment for businesses to grow and develop to support the economy.
As part of the anniversary, there would be a lecture, digital fair, debates, festivals, book launch, launch of 4G services, launch of promotions, dinner and Ghana stands in worship.
