MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunications service provider in Voice and Data and Mobile Money services, has taken another judicious step by launching the 9th edition of the Internet Festival Month dubbed: i-Fest.

The month-long festival which is in its eighth year, is to create awareness about the internet and the immense benefits of a brighter connected world.

This year’s i-Fest is in consonance with the Year of the Customer declaration. It seeks to reward the customer while offering great value for money.

The iFest will also be used to educate customers to upgrade and get one of the newly launched MTN SMART feature phone and other devices such as the MTN Turbonet.

Through I-Fest, MTN have created the opportunity for countless education opportunities across all touch points to share valuable insights on the benefits of the internet.

MTN has also invested $160 million dollars in infrastructure expansion and technology enhancement projects to give a spectacular experience to their valued customers.

Speaking at the launching ceremony which was held in Accra, the Senior Manager, Products and Services, of MTN Ghana Mr. Bless Sefenu Agordjo, noted that since the introduction of the iFest in the year 2011, the achievements have been quite phenomenal but there is the need to do more to close the digital gap.

“For iFest 2019, one of our goals is to ensure that 6 out of 10 MTN customers lined up would have access to a digital experience through a smartphone or a mobile broadband device,” he stated.

As the leader in the telecoms industry, we deem it our duty to educate customers on how they can fully utilize digital tools for their benefit and to improve their lives.

Activities undertaken as part of iFest include trader’s fora, digital fairs in the markets, campuses have all contributed significantly to internet penetration in Ghana. Increased the number of data subscribers from 1.5 million to 13.5million.

According to him, they are partnering with their Original Equipment Manufacturers to organize device bazaars and digital fairs in several locations across the country.

As we introduce these affordable devices, we are ensuring that access to the connectivity that will allow customers to realize the full potential of their smartphones are made available.

“In view of this, MTN, together with the NCA, GIFEC and Huawei Technologies launched the rural telephony project to create access to underserved communities to enjoy the benefits of a connected lifestyle. This is one of our achievements in 2018,” explained.

Adding that, MTN has deployed a total of 1,092 4G sites at the end of March 2019, out of which 600 sites are 4G+ sites in different parts of the country.
