MTN Ghana has announced plans to significantly enhance security measures to address the growing issue of Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud, which is impacting its services and customer trust.
During the launch event marking MoMo’s 15th anniversary in Ho, Peter Bimpeh, senior manager at Mobile Money Limited, addressed the ongoing challenges posed by fraud.
Bimpeh spoke on behalf of Shaibu Haruna and highlighted that fraud continues to be a significant obstacle in advancing digital and financial inclusion efforts.
“Fraud remains one of the prevalent issues that continue to hinder our work of promoting digital and financial inclusion in the country,” Bimpeh said.
He emphasized the company’s commitment to implementing robust security measures and working closely with stakeholders to combat fraud effectively.
Bimpeh refuted claims suggesting that MTN Ghana staff assisted fraudsters with users’ information. He urged MoMo users to remain vigilant and protect their account details.
“Every customer is the first and last line of defence. We need to protect our PINs and avoid clicking on unsolicited links, responding to fake SMS messages, or following instructions from random callers,” he advised.
Bimpeh expressed optimism about the future of MTN MoMo and Ghana’s digital payments sector.
He stated, “We see a future of endless possibilities for MTN MoMo and Ghana’s digital payments sector. We are excited to continue our journey of innovation, economic inclusion, and empowerment.”
Bimpeh concluded by affirming MTN Ghana’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology to meet its customers’ evolving needs and contribute to the growth of Ghana’s digital economy.
