Telecommunication giant, MTN, yesterday presented scholarship to five (5) polytechnic students worth GH?10,000 each to further their education.

The five students were winners of MTN?s 10 Million Milestone Essay Competition held last year.

The ceremony was the second to be organised by MTN in the period of five months since the launch of the company?s 10 Million Merit Award Scheme.

Presenting the awards at the brief ceremony in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, Michael Ikpoki, said the wards confirm his company?s commitment and support for education in the country.

?I am glad to see these five young students who are embarking on their tertiary education being awarded a scholarship package worth GH?10,000 each from the MTN Ghana Foundation. This sponsorship will enable them further their education in courses of their choice that will no doubt propel them towards economic empowerment,? the CEO of MTN said.

He commended the judges who reviewed all the 472 entries.

?We thank you all for accepting to take on this assignment in addition to your regular work schedule,? Mr. Ikpoki expressed.

For his part, the President of Ghana Association of Writers, Mr. KwesiGyanApenteng, applauded the winners and expressed the hope that this initiative will grow to enhance more lives in the country.

He urged the winners to make good use of the scholarship facility offered them by MTN.

The five award winners of the competition were selected from Ho, Koforidua, Sunyani, Bolga and Wa polytechnics after participating in an essay competition organised by MTN.

The essay competition, which had 472 students participating, was later prunedto 50 and it was out of this that five were selected as the winners.

The award aimed at rewarding MTN subscribers for their loyalty resulting in the brand?s attainment of the 10 Million customer base milestone.

One of the winners,Adu Menyah Enoch, thanked MTN for the gesture and advised her colleague students to take some of these competitions seriously.
