MTN Ghana has presented a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe to a 45 years-old fish trader Mr. James Quayson, from Elmina in the Central Region who emerged as the ultimate winner in the MTN Mobile Money 10th anniversary consumer promotion.

Mr. James Quayson, was rewarded for being the customer with the highest number of MoMo transactions for the month of August 2019, which marks the end of the promotion.

According to him, most of his financial transactions have been done via MSN Mobile Money, making him one of the most loyal clients of the service.

Mr. James Quayson, who could not hide his joy, expressed his profound appreciation to MTN for acknowledging and rewarding him patronage of the service.

However, he seized the opportunity to advise all customers to register and use the MoMo services in order to stand chance to win subsequent awards and other benefits.

The promo, which spanned a period of three months from June to August rewarded about 1000 customers with 10 Hyundai i10 cars, smart television sets, and cash prizes.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony which was held at the Junction Mall in Accra, the General Manager of MTN Mobile Money Financial Services, Mr Eli Hini, explained that, the presentation of the prizes was a way of acknowledging the customers for all the years of loyalty in using the Service.

This he said, they went round the 10 regions of Ghana to launch the anniversary and celebrate the successes of MTN MoMo with our customers.

“To make the celebrations even more exciting for our cherished customers, we launched a consumer promotion to enable our customers win exciting prizes. This is to demonstrate the value we place on our customers,” he added.

The promotion was “Point based” and winners were tasked to accumulate points during the month to win any of the prizes at stake.

Subscribers gained points by undertaking transactions from their wallet to merchants (via merchant IDs) for retail payments, transferring from their wallets to other wallets and using MoMo to purchase data and airtime, bill payments, and many more. At the end the month, we accumulate the points gained and reward the top point earners,” he explained.

It’s been an exciting period, 10 years of MTN Mobile Money, he said, adding that“we at MTN are so excited about how far your contributions to mobile money has come.”

Mr Eli Hini, however, urged all customers to continue using the Mobile Money service since it is safe and reliable. He also seized the opportunity to advise customers of MoMo to remain alert and avoid scammers.

“Do not to disclose your MoMo PIN to anyone, or allow anyone to do transaction on your behalf. Also do not entertain calls or text messages from any number to discuss your wallet or respond to any promotion you have not participated in,” he advised.

MTN MoMo was launched in July 2009 to provide ease of undertaking financial transaction on the phone. Launched with two main services i.e. Money Transfer and Airtime Purchase, the MoMo platform has six major categories of financial transactions under which varying services are provided including pensions, insurance, savings, micro loans, international remittances and banking options.

The MTN MoMo innovation is arguably the most successful innovation in the history of financial services in Ghana. Since the introduction of mobile money in 2009, the service has grown to become the foremost payment system in the country.
