MTN partners 3 Foundation to save children with hole-in-heart conditions

MTN Ghana Foundation in collaboration with 3 Foundation has taken another giant step by launching an initiative dubbed: “Think Heart, Save a Child” project to help support children with hole in heart conditions in the country.

Under this partnership, MTN Ghana Foundation will provide a total of GH¢200,000.00 a year to support the surgeries, admissions and medication for children with hole in heart conditions.

Speaking at launching ceremony in Accra, the Acting Corporate Services Executive of MTN Mr. Samuel Koranteng, hinted that the fund will be disbursed quarterly with an amount of GH¢ 50,000.00 devoted to two children each quarter.

This he said, the project will be reviewed after each year to ensure that they make the needed impact in the lives of our children.

The MTN Ghana Foundation is pleased to partner with 3 Foundation to initiate the “Think Heart, Save Child Project” which is aimed at providing financial support to children with hole in heart conditions at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

According to Samuel Koranteng, MTN Ghana Foundation has HEALTH as one of its focus areas of intervention in their communities.

“But even more importantly, the Foundation the Foundation gives particular attention to matters of children and this borne out of our belief that every child deserves a healthy happy childhood devoid of pains and misery.

It is against this background that the MTN Ghana Foundation continues to search for like-minded institutions to partner with to support in delivery quality healthcare to our communities.

In terms of our support to children’s health needs in the country, the Foundation is proud of its contributions thus far,” he stated.

According to him, in order to ensure fairness in the selection process, patients will be chosen according to criteria that has been designed by a joint team from MTN, 3 Foundation and the National Cardiothoracic centre.

Since its inception in 2007, the Foundation has implemented over 142 projects nationwide of which 50 are health projects.

Some of these health projects include the refurbishment of the labor ward of the 2nd Floor of Korle Bu Maternity block, donation of medical equipment to health facilities across the country, construction of CHPS Compounds in various communities, among others.

The Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, noted that health care delivery is fundamental to the socio economic development of every nation.

The Nana Akufo led government is fully aware of this and is committed to revolutionising health care in the country to ensure quality health care delivery to all Ghanaians.

“As the statistics indicates, more than 7,000 children are born annually with hole-in-heart conditions in Ghana. Many of these children, whose parents are unable to afford the cost of heart surgeries are left to die,” he disclosed.

This is the reason this collaboration by 3 Foundation and the MTN Foundation should be celebrated and emulated by other corporate organizations.
