Vendors Association have threatened to stop the sale of scratch cards of MTN if the mobile giant does not reduce the wholesale price of the cards. According to the Vendors Association they are also going to get subscribers of MTN to put to other networks with their intend creation of artificial shortage of the recharge cards.

Vendors of recharge cards at the beginning of the year begun charging the new rates for MTN recharge cards slapping about 10 percent on top ? up cards because IZONE had increased the rates of the recharge cards effective first January 2015. Though MTN has denied the increment some vendors who spoke to Citi Business News say they will not badge till the mobile giant reduces the prices. Citi Business news checks last week showed a lot of retailers of MTN top-up cards then had increased their prices above what was indicated on the cards.

The top ? up cards had gone up by between 5%-10% depending on who you were buying the top ? up card from. Top up cards costing 2 cedis were sold at 2 cedis 10 pesewas and while the 5 cedi cards, some charged as high as 5 cedis 50 pesewas and 11 cedis for the 10 cedi top-up cards. A number of these retailers who spoke to Citi Business news said it is because the prices sold by the sub dealers and wholesalers had also increased by a little under 1%. Speaking to Citi Business News Coordinator of the Vendors Association Martin Awuah said MTN should allow the vendors to make up for margins that have been lost because of the hikes or they the vendors were ready to stop the sale of MTN top-up cards and Sim Cards.

?We are the people who give them their money, we go whether rain or sunshine to give Mtn money. So if they would not respect us and expect us to go by foot to IZONE to purchase the card we are not going to sit down now and bear that cost. I Awuah have money and choose to purchase Mtn recharge cards, I can refuse and we will refuse to buy the cards and will put the numbers to other networks.?

Coordinator of the Vendors Association said they were also going to inform subscribers that Mtn was cheating the public slowly arguing that it?s the vendors that deal direct with the customers or subscribers of Mtn. He also said they would do all in their power to ensure that Mtn losses its position as the market leader if the issue is not resolved by also advising customers or subscribers to pot their numbers to other networks.

?Assuming you are number one and your top ? up cards cannot be found by the users of the network what will happen to you. You can see that at the end of this month their sales will come down because we will not buy their top ? up cards to sell and we are also going to promote the other network because of what they are doing to us.?
