Mumbai airport runway will be partially closed for renovation from Nov. 4 till March for a major rehabilitation and re-carpeting work.
During this period, the shorter secondary runway will be available for normal flight operations, said the statement issued by the airport.
“As per the revised date, RWY 09/27 will not be available for aircraft operations from Nov. 4, 2019 up to March 28 2020, 6 days of the week, from Mondays to Saturdays between 09:30 to 17:30 (local time),” said the statement.
“However, during the closure of RWY 09/27, RWY 14/32 will be available for aircraft operations.”
The work was postponed due to prolonged monsoon season, which normally starts in June and ends by September in Mumbai.
The primary runway at the airport can handle up to 48 arrivals and departures an hour while the secondary runway can handle 35 flight movements per hour, airport officials said.
The airport in Mumbai, with two intersecting runways, is India’s second busiest airport after Delhi in terms of passenger traffic. Enditem
