Ghanaian Afro-pop sensation, Obkay has said the Coronavirus pandemic has had adverse effects on the music industry especially for upcoming acts who look to fulfill their dreams of becoming top music stars.
According to the “Let Me Know” hitmaker known in real life as Francis Obeng Kumi, the ban on social gatherings had affected the important aspect of their craft, therefore, making it difficult to connect with their fan base.
“The music structures in the country are not strong to cater for artistes so we must as individuals fight our way through these difficult times.
“The most important part of being an artiste is connecting with your fans and that physical aspect has been affected with the ban on gatherings which I think would prolong until the virus has been properly curbed,’’ he told Ghana News Agency.
He added that, the online music market seems the only outlets to thrive your career as a musician, but added that many Ghanaians are not conversant with the use of such digital platforms, hence a major challenge.
“It will be crucial for musicians to seek other means of gaining a livelihood aside pursuing music because the road to recovery will be a long journey,” he said.
Obkay is currently out with his new single titled “All Day” featuring Shaker.
