The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Lucy Quist, has observed that Public Relations plays a vital role in image building and identity development of a country. She charged Public Relations Practitioners in the country to use communications tools and channels at their disposal, to tell their own story and that of Ghana, thereby projecting the achievements of this great nation.

?When others tell your story, they are likely to present it from their perspective, which will not always be in your interest or portray the full picture. The determinant of what is shared becomes what will sell, not always to our advantage. It is imperative that we tell more of our positive story and create better balance in views,? she explained.

Lucy Quist made this call when she chaired the opening ceremony of the Institute of Public Relations? (IPR) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra this weekunder the theme ?A Nation at a Crossroads: Using Effective Public Relations to Achieve the National Agenda?.

Commenting on the theme, Airtel?s MD reminded participants that we each needed to make our contribution towards the development of the nation. ?At Airtel, we focus on making a positive difference by challenging ourselves to discover the potential in us and others. It is the difference IPR and its practitioners are being challenged to make using the power of communication?, she added.

On his part, President of IPR, Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd) explained that the theme for this year?s AGM was necessitated by the Institute?s belief that PR Practitioners indeed had a role to play in projecting the image of Ghana locally and on the international stage.
