Dr Ibrahim Anyars, Chief Executive Officer of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), has tasked NABCO trainees to show integrity in all their endeavours as they begin to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
He said NABCO was envisioned to create a new sense of urgency among the youth, and as one of the biggest workforce for the country they were expected to behave well to get better results.
He said the organisation was keen to emphasise on its core values; which were knowledge, punctuality and integrity.
Dr Anyars said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the side line of the opening ceremony of a Workshop on Oracle Tools in Accra.
It was organised by the Ministry of Finance under the Public Financial Management Reform Project (PFMRP).
The five-day training workshop, which is part of sustainability measures for supporting Ghana’s Public Financial Management Systems; covering, Financials, Hyperion, Payroll and HRMIS, would train officers from NABCO to serve as Cadres of Oracle Technical and Functional Support.
The Project seeks to achieve: improvement in budget management, financial control and reporting of the Government of Ghana with the aim of enhancing fiscal discipline.
Dr Anyars said the initiative was to further ensure that the trainees had clearer pathways to gain knowledge for their careers, and one of the key things for career development was integrity; recognising the investment being made and ensuring that the nation benefits.
He said this was one of the lead programs under the Digitize Ghana module, and the youth were going to be trained to deal with Ghana’s public financial management systems.
Dr Anyars told GNA that there was a plan to scale this, to affect the near 16,000 NABCO trainees they had under the Digitize Ghana module, because there was some immense benefit.
Dr Mohammed Sani Abdulai, Project Director of PFMRP, described the initiative as a long-term plan for government’s core systems, as this would enable Ghana as a country take charge of its governance systems when PFMRP which was being funded by the World Bank ends in December 2020.
He said 100 trainees were being trained for the first week, but then they intend having Oracle University taking up the training after the first phase, for the next six months.
The Project Director encouraged the trainees to be committed, as the project intends to build up Ghanaians to support the Government of Ghana in the running of government’s own oracle platforms.
Mr Franklin Asare, Oracle Country Manager, said about 36 per cent of employers globally, reports of talent shortage, hence the workshop would enable the trainees to acquire knowledge and support the Oracle database used by government and other institutions.
He underscored the need to have database engineers around the world, particularly in Ghana since they were not enough.
He was therefore, hopeful that government would provide the governance systems for the practical experience to begin.
